Google Interactions API Reaches General Availability, Laying Groundwork for New Era of AI Agents

1 reports · First detected 2026-06-23 · Last active 2026-06-23

Google’s generateContent has long been the main interface developers use to access Gemini models. But complex AI agents must retain conversational state and coordinate multiple models and tools, making the traditional single-generation approach increasingly inadequate. The Interactions API is designed as a unified foundation for agentic workflows, reducing the burden on developers to manage state and execution environments themselves.

As of July 20, 2026, Google has announced the general availability of the Interactions API. It will gradually replace generateContent as the default interface for Gemini models and agent services. The new version supports server-side state management, long-running background tasks and remote sandbox configuration. The announcement did not include any transaction value or changes to service pricing.
