Nvidia Invests in Mira Murati's AI Lab Thinking Machines

4 reports · First detected 2026-03-11 · Last active 2026-03-14

Thinking Machines Lab was founded in February 2025 by former OpenAI chief technology officer Mira Murati and focuses on customizable frontier AI models. The company raised $2 billion in a seed round in July of that year at a $12 billion valuation. Nvidia's investment further ties the chipmaker's capital and computing-power strategy to that of a large-model startup.

Nvidia and Thinking Machines Lab announced a multiyear strategic partnership on March 10, 2026, and said Nvidia had made a significant investment, without disclosing the amount. Thinking Machines will begin deploying at least 1 GW of Vera Rubin systems in early 2027 for model training and inference. The companies will also jointly design training and serving systems optimized for Nvidia's architecture.
