Trump Defends Family's Crypto Business, Says ‘Nothing Wrong’ With Profits
The Trump family has entered the cryptocurrency industry through World Liberty Financial, which operates token and lending businesses and has generated substantial income for the family. Because Trump also controls the direction of U.S. financial regulation and policy, the financial ties have raised questions about political influence, conflicts of interest and government ethics rules.
As of July 20, 2026, Trump had publicly said there was “nothing wrong” with his family's profits from its cryptocurrency ventures. World Liberty Financial previously extended tens of millions of dollars in loans. Despite recent downward pressure on the cryptocurrency market, the project and the family's earnings continue to draw scrutiny from investors and ethics watchdogs.

The history behind this eventTrump Family’s World Liberty Financial Expansion Raises Conflict-of-Interest Concerns
The Trump family launched World Liberty Financial (WLFI) in September 2024, issuing a governance token and developing businesses including stablecoins. Trump-affiliated companies are entitled to about 75% of net token-sale revenue. The arrangement overlaps with presidential powers, crypto regulation and national Bitcoin reserve policy, breaking with the practice of previous presidents using blind trusts to mitigate conflicts of interest.
TRON founder Justin Sun invested $30 million on November 25, 2024, and another $45 million in January 2025, bringing his total investment to $75 million. WLFI’s token sales had reached $550 million as of March 2025. The Trump administration established a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve on March 6 that year, while chip-export and foreign-policy decisions also affected the interests of financial backers, prompting lawmakers and ethics experts to demand more comprehensive disclosures.
