NHS England to Revise Palantir Platform Claims After Staff Concerns

Palantir won a contract worth up to £330 million in November 2023 to build NHS England’s Federated Data Platform over a maximum seven-year term. The system links fragmented health information to support care and operational decisions, while its National Data Integration Tenant processes some identifiable records before they are de-identified. England’s National Data Guardian Nicola Byrne rebuked NHS England on June 3, 2026, after an impact assessment said only NHS staff could access directly identifiable data but omitted suppliers. NHS England later acknowledged the document was wrong. As of June 15, three Palantir engineers held administrative-level NDIT access for round-the-clock support, while 33 other supplier engineers had narrower project access. NHS England said permissions are purpose-specific, reverified every three months and audited monthly, and contractors cannot use the data for their own purposes.

The health service said its comparisons cover the 12 months before adoption and the rolling 12 months after implementation, but cannot establish cause and effect because other variables were not controlled. Claims cited by Palantir and officials include more than 110,000 additional operations, a 15% reduction in discharge delays and a 6.8% increase in patients receiving a cancer result within 28 days.
