Bernanke Joins Anthropic Trust to Focus on AI Economic Research
As artificial intelligence advances rapidly, its impact on the global economy and labor markets has become a major concern for governments and technology giants worldwide. Anthropic, the frontier AI company behind Claude, established an independent Long-Term Benefit Trust to ensure that safety and social welfare remain priorities as it pursues technological breakthroughs. The independent trustee structure is designed to prevent the company from overlooking safety risks in pursuit of profit.
On July 9, 2026, former Federal Reserve Chair and 2022 Nobel economics laureate Ben Bernanke formally joined the trust as its fourth trustee. He will focus on researching AI's impact on the global economy and labor markets. The trust neither owns equity in Anthropic nor distributes any profits, but its Class T common stock carries voting rights that allow it to elect and remove board members, giving it oversight of the company's governance and safety policies.
