NYSE Parent ICE Deepens tZERO Bet in Tokenized Securities Push

3 reports · First detected 2026-08-31 · Last active 2026-09-01

Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, sits at the center of U.S. market infrastructure through its exchanges, clearing houses and data businesses. tZERO operates regulated digital-securities infrastructure, including an SEC-regulated alternative trading system through a subsidiary. ICE first made a strategic investment in tZERO in February 2022. The renewed tie-up brings blockchain-based shares closer to the transfer-agent, trading and settlement machinery used in public capital markets.

On Aug. 31, 2026, ICE said it would participate in tZERO’s latest financing round, though the investment amount and resulting ownership stake were not disclosed. tZERO will be a design partner for ICE’s digital transfer-agent program supporting an upcoming NYSE-affiliated tokenized-securities platform. ICE will also license tZERO’s portfolio of 103 blockchain patents covering compliant transfers, smart contracts and corporate actions, while the companies will explore using tokenized assets as collateral at ICE clearing houses and affiliates.

The Backstory

The history behind this event
ICE and OKX Form Joint Venture to Tokenize NYSE Stocks2026-06-23 · 3 reports · similarity 0.83

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) is the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), while OKX is a global cryptocurrency exchange. The companies aim to combine traditional equities with blockchain tokenization technology, allowing NYSE-listed assets to be issued, traded and settled digitally. They also plan to build infrastructure for native digital financial products within the U.S. regulatory framework.

ICE and OKX have formed a new 50-50 joint venture and named former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as co-chair. The investment amount has not been disclosed. The company will pursue the tokenization of NYSE-listed stocks and other assets, develop next-generation trading infrastructure, and later seek U.S. securities and futures brokerage licenses. As of July 19, 2026, no timeline for the license applications had been announced.

NYSE Parent ICE Develops Blockchain Platform for Tokenized Securities and Onchain Settlement2026-03-27 · 8 reports · similarity 0.84

Securities tokenization records rights attached to assets such as stocks and exchange-traded funds on a blockchain while preserving dividend and corporate-governance rights. Intercontinental Exchange, the parent of the New York Stock Exchange, plans to connect its existing Pillar matching engine to onchain post-trade settlement, allowing trades and settlement to occur simultaneously. The model could reduce counterparty risk and improve collateral and cross-time-zone funding efficiency, testing whether traditional market infrastructure can be upgraded within existing regulatory frameworks.

ICE announced the new platform on January 19, 2026, with plans for round-the-clock trading in U.S. stocks and ETFs throughout the year, fractional shares, orders placed by dollar amount, stablecoin funding and real-time settlement across multiple blockchains. On March 24, the NYSE also signed a memorandum of understanding with Securitize, which manages more than $4 billion in assets, designating it as the first qualified digital transfer agent responsible for minting native tokenized securities. The platform remains subject to regulatory approval.
