IAG Partners With OpenAI on AI Voice Agents for Claims

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-28 · Last active 2026-07-28

Insurance Australia Group, one of Australia’s major general insurers, is looking to move generative AI closer to the claims front line. Natural catastrophes can trigger sudden spikes in calls and claims, straining service capacity when policyholders most need help. Voice agents could absorb routine interactions, expand coverage and give staff more time for complex cases, making insurance claims a high-value test of whether agentic AI can improve service without weakening governance or customer safeguards.

IAG said on July 27, 2026, it would work with OpenAI to explore voice-based customer agents using the newly released OpenAI Presence system. The initial effort will focus on claims responses and scaling operations during high-volume natural peril events. Delivery is expected to begin in the first half of FY27, covering July through December 2026. IAG said the system would be developed under its governance, security and responsible-AI frameworks. The companies did not disclose an investment or contract value.
