Bitcoin and Dollar System Have Symbiotic Relationship as Stablecoins Bolster US Dollar Dominance
The Bitcoin Policy Institute said Bitcoin provides a decentralized store of value, while stablecoins pegged 1:1 to the US dollar connect crypto markets with the dollar-based financial system. Because most digital-asset transactions are still priced and settled in dollars, the two are not engaged in a zero-sum competition and could instead expand global demand for the currency.
As of July 2026, the institute's head of research, Sam Lyman, described Bitcoin and dollar stablecoins as having a “symbiotic relationship,” but offered no specific financial estimate. He called on the US Congress to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for stablecoins to reinforce the dollar's dominance in digital-asset markets and its geopolitical competitiveness.
