AI Pushes Netflix, Spotify Toward All-in-One Entertainment Apps
Entertainment streaming was built around separate silos for music, long-form video, podcasts and games. As those markets mature, Netflix, Spotify, YouTube and TikTok are broadening their apps into all-purpose destinations. AI makes content production, cataloging and personalized discovery cheaper, helping platforms blend formats in one interface and compete for short bursts of consumer attention. The payoff is potentially higher engagement, with more inventory for advertising and more reasons for users to retain subscriptions.
The convergence accelerated in 2026. Spotify on July 14 began beta testing Talk to Spotify, a conversational feature for navigating music, podcasts and audiobooks by voice or text. Netflix on June 10 unveiled a refreshed mobile experience featuring Clips, a vertical-video feed, and easier access to games; a KPop Demon Hunters game collection followed on June 20. Netflix and Spotify have also agreed to bring 16 video podcasts from Spotify Studios and The Ringer to Netflix. The companies did not disclose financial terms.
