China Moves AI Into Classrooms and Teacher Qualification Exams

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-10 · Last active 2026-04-10

China is elevating artificial intelligence literacy into a core part of its education system as generative AI and digital teaching tools spread across classrooms. The “AI + Education” initiative, issued by the Ministry of Education and four other government bodies, spans primary and secondary schools, universities and teacher training. It seeks to prepare students and educators for technology-driven changes in productivity while building awareness of AI principles, risks and ethics.

The latest plan calls for faster adoption of AI education in primary and secondary schools and promotes the subject as a general foundational course at universities. For the first time, AI-related knowledge will also be incorporated into teacher qualification examinations and certification requirements. The five agencies aim to coordinate curricula, testing and professional development, though detailed syllabuses, implementation dates and assessment standards have yet to be announced.
