Vercel Unveils Agent Stack to Simplify AI Agent Development

AI agents must connect to models from multiple providers, execute tasks across several steps, preserve state and securely access corporate systems, forcing development teams to stitch tools together themselves. Vercel has combined AI SDK, AI Gateway, Workflow SDK, Sandbox and Connect into Agent Stack in a bid to reduce vendor lock-in and the risks of failed-task reruns and credential leaks.

Vercel unveiled Agent Stack on June 17, 2026. Workflow SDK creates checkpoints for individual steps and automatically retries them, while Sandbox isolates execution in separate microVMs. AI Gateway connects to hundreds of models, charges providers’ list prices and adds a $0 markup. Connect entered public beta the same day, initially supporting six services, including Slack and GitHub.
