xAI Launches ‘Ultrafast Voice Cloning’ for Grok, Adds Safety Verification
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI is expanding Grok beyond text chat into text-to-speech, or TTS, services, broadening its personalized voice applications. Voice cloning can lower barriers to content creation but may also be exploited for deepfake scams, making identity verification and voiceprint protection critical to widespread adoption.
As of July 19, 2026, xAI had launched Custom Voices and Voice Library. Users can record one minute of natural speech and generate a personalized AI voice model in about two minutes for use with Grok TTS. The platform also uses two-step verification comprising a live recording and voiceprint matching to reduce the risk of voice impersonation.
