Taiwan to Start Odd-Lot Trading at 9 a.m. by Year-End, Shelves Longer Trading Hours for Now
Intraday odd-lot trading in Taiwan currently begins 10 minutes after board-lot trading, with the first matching session at 9:10 a.m., limiting small investors’ ability to participate immediately in market moves. The Taiwan Stock Exchange is working to open odd-lot and board-lot trading simultaneously to improve convenience and market efficiency. Extending the market’s closing time, however, would also affect brokerage operations and investor habits.
The Taiwan Stock Exchange confirmed that it aims to move the intraday odd-lot market’s opening to 9 a.m. by the end of 2026. It also plans to shorten the matching interval from 5 seconds to 1 second in July 2027. In response to proposals to extend Taiwan stock trading until 3:30 p.m., the Financial Supervisory Commission said there was no social consensus and the change would not be implemented for now.
