Taiwan FSC Eases Futures Broker Rules, Opens One-Stop ETF and TDR Trading Next Monday
Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission is easing restrictions on futures brokers that act as introducing brokers for securities trading, whose mandate to accept trading orders was previously more limited. The change will let investors access spot and futures markets through a single interface provided by a futures broker, supporting cross-market arbitrage, asset allocation and risk management while expanding the brokers’ range of one-stop financial services.
The new rules take effect on June 15, next Monday. Investors will be able to place orders directly through eligible futures brokers for a range of securities, including exchange-traded funds, Taiwan Depositary Receipts and exchange-traded notes. The FSC said the expanded mandate is primarily intended to reduce the cost of operating across platforms and improve the efficiency of arbitrage and hedging.
