Meta Launches Muse Code to Challenge OpenAI, Anthropic

7 reports · First detected 2026-08-06 · Last active 2026-08-06

Meta Platforms is expanding its generative-AI push into software development, taking aim at terminal-based coding tools led by Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI Codex. Meta Superintelligence Labs introduced the Muse Spark model family on April 8 and opened a paid developer API on July 9. Muse Code marks a broader effort to turn Meta’s AI research into commercial tools for engineers handling complex, repository-scale work.

Meta AI released Muse Code in beta on Aug. 5, powered by the new Muse Spark 1.2 model and available on macOS and Linux. The agent can plan changes, write code, run tests and verify results, while persistent asynchronous background agents continue working across long sessions. Standard API pricing is $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. Meta said one demonstration ran for up to 24 hours and made more than 1,000 tool calls.

Meta Launches Muse Spark Model to Challenge Claude2026-07-11 · 3 reports · similarity 0.83

Meta, previously known for its open-source Llama models, is shifting toward a closed-source strategy to challenge OpenAI and Anthropic. Meta Superintelligence Labs, led by former Scale AI executive Alexandr Wang, has introduced Muse Spark, a model focused on agentic tasks and coding. Its low pricing is designed to attract small and midsize development teams, formally marking Meta’s entry into the closed-source frontier-model market.

Meta formally unveiled the upgraded Muse Spark 1.1 on July 9, 2026, expanding its context window to 1 million tokens and opening paid access to the Model API for the first time. Mark Zuckerberg took the unusual step of promoting it in a post. Input and output tokens are priced at just $1.25 and $4.25 per million tokens, respectively, as Meta seeks to undercut rivals and gain market share.
