Taiwan FSC Weighs Odd-Lot Day Trading to Improve Market Fairness
Taiwan’s odd-lot market allows investors with limited funds to buy expensive stocks, but it still differs from the board-lot market in matching frequency, available trading tools and eligibility for day trading. The Financial Supervisory Commission believes these disparities could affect execution efficiency and investor rights, making greater market fairness a priority in its planned reforms.
FSC Chairperson Thomas Kung-lung Peng told lawmakers that he would ask the Taiwan Stock Exchange to assess the feasibility of shortening odd-lot matching intervals and permitting day trading and leveraged transactions in odd lots. The exchange is expected to submit a study within one month of the legislative questioning. The FSC will then consider further measures based on market risk, investor protection and system capacity.
