Netflix Unveils Cast for FTX Fraud Limited Series 'The Altruists'

FTX was once one of the world's leading cryptocurrency exchanges but filed for bankruptcy after a liquidity crisis erupted in November 2022. Founder Sam Bankman-Fried was accused of diverting about $8 billion in customer funds to Alameda Research and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on March 28, 2024. The case severely damaged market confidence, while the aura surrounding “effective altruism” forms a central theme of the drama.

Netflix announced the cast of the limited series “The Altruists” on March 17, 2026, with Anthony Boyle playing SBF, Julia Garner portraying Caroline Ellison and Terry Chen appearing as CZ. The eight-episode series is based on reporting by New York Magazine, and a release date has yet to be announced.
