Taiwan Expands AI Talent Program, Partners With Six Universities on Industry Projects

Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs is developing AI talent for industry by teaching university students not only how to use models and tools, but also how to address real-world challenges faced by businesses and local industries. The program connects universities with industry settings and applies AI to smart eldercare, agriculture and logistics. It could help address Taiwan’s shortage of interdisciplinary, hands-on talent and accelerate adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises.

The ministry expanded the program in 2026 and will work with six universities to design practical projects around the needs of industries in different regions. Publicly available information has not disclosed the overall budget or the participating institutions. The ministry has also partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to hold a generative AI hackathon, using timed development challenges and team competition to strengthen young people’s problem-solving and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
