Fortinet Acquires Virtue AI to Bolster Agentic AI Security

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-18 · Last active 2026-08-18

As companies deploy generative AI and autonomous agents, security exposure is moving beyond model output to the tools, data and applications those systems can access. Prompt injection, unauthorized actions and weaknesses in connected software can be difficult for conventional endpoint defenses to catch. Fortinet’s acquisition of Virtue AI extends its security operations into AI models and applications, addressing a growing governance gap as enterprises put agentic systems into production.

Fortinet said it completed its acquisition of AI security startup Virtue AI, adding capabilities focused on autonomous agents, AI models and applications. Virtue AI provides sandboxed red-team testing, defenses against prompt-injection attacks and real-time monitoring of tools connected through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP. The technology is designed to help companies uncover vulnerabilities before deployment and detect risky behavior after AI services go live.
