Bitcoin’s Sharpe Ratio Falls to Lowest Since 2022

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-06 · Last active 2026-07-06

The Sharpe ratio measures the excess return an asset generates for each unit of volatility risk. A lower reading means investors receive poorer returns for the risk they bear. Bitcoin’s 365-day Sharpe ratio has swung sharply into negative territory, reflecting falling prices and heightened volatility in the cryptocurrency market. It has also become an important gauge of where the current bear market stands.

As of July 20, 2026, Bitcoin was down 28% for the year, while its 365-day Sharpe ratio had fallen to nearly minus 20, the lowest level since the 2022 bear market. Historical trends show that similarly extreme lows have often occurred around the time of bear-market bottoms. However, the indicator measures only risk-adjusted returns and cannot by itself confirm that prices have bottomed.

Bitcoin Sharpe Ratio Nears Historic Low-Risk Zone as Holders Absorb Over 125,000 BTC in June2026-06-17 · 2 reports · similarity 0.83

Bitcoin’s Sharpe ratio measures returns relative to the volatility investors assume, with a lower reading generally indicating weaker risk-adjusted performance. CryptoQuant onchain data shows the metric has fallen to negative 20. Similar readings have coincided with market bottoms several times in the past, making it an important signal for long-term investors accumulating positions in stages.

CryptoQuant said holders absorbed more than 125,000 BTC in June. From June 1 to 14, demand from accumulation addresses doubled from its previous level to about 240,000 BTC. Bitcoin reserves on exchanges have also declined by roughly 80,000 BTC since February, indicating that holdings continue to move into private wallets while the supply available for sale contracts.
