NVIDIA Unveils Fully Liquid-Cooled Data Center Design Targeting Zero Water Use for AI Cooling
Generative AI is driving rapid growth in high-density GPU clusters, putting the electricity and water required for data center cooling under greater scrutiny over their environmental impact and operating costs. NVIDIA has incorporated liquid cooling into its next-generation infrastructure designs to reduce reliance on conventional evaporative cooling and ease constraints on deploying AI computing capacity in water-scarce regions.
As of July 20, 2026, NVIDIA had unveiled a fully liquid-cooled data center design that circulates a mixture of water and propylene glycol through a closed loop to remove heat directly from AI servers. The design aims to move toward zero water use for external cooling. Reports have not disclosed a commercial rollout timetable, construction costs or measured data on water and electricity savings.
