Stash Taps Capitalize to Streamline 401(k) Rollovers

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-21 · Last active 2026-08-21

Employer-sponsored 401(k) accounts do not automatically follow workers when they change jobs, leaving savers to locate former plans, contact administrators and navigate paperwork before moving funds into an individual retirement account. The friction has created a large pool of fragmented or forgotten retirement savings, making rollover technology increasingly important to investment platforms seeking to deepen customer relationships and attract long-term assets.

Stash has integrated Capitalize’s Embedded Rollover API, enabling customers to search for old 401(k) accounts and begin consolidating the assets through the Stash app. Capitalize estimated that about 31.9 million 401(k) accounts holding roughly $2.1 trillion had been left behind in the United States as of July 2025. The companies did not disclose the commercial terms of the partnership or provide a detailed timetable for the feature’s rollout.
