AI-Assisted Development Reshapes Software Workflows and Roles
Amid the generative AI boom, AI-assisted development has emerged as a key force reshaping software engineering. Traditional development models rely heavily on senior engineers to write exhaustive specifications and spend substantial time on implementation tasks such as debugging and syntax checks, driving up costs. As AI becomes deeply involved in stages ranging from requirements analysis to testing, using the technology to cut costs and redefine the division of labor has become a central challenge for technology companies worldwide.
Taiwanese technology publication iThome published a special report in July 2026 featuring practical AI Coding insights from Chen Yi-chang, a former technical manager at MediaTek Innovation Base. Chen said AI can sharply reduce the labor and time required during implementation, but quality control remains the real challenge. Rather than fixating on perfect specifications, engineers should strengthen their ability to define problems, break down tasks and validate results. This would allow them to become orchestrators who use AI as a high-efficiency development lever.
