Lambda Raises $1 Billion to Buy Nvidia Chips for Microsoft
Lambda is a Nvidia-backed “neocloud” provider that buys graphics processors and rents computing capacity to companies including Microsoft. Its capital-intensive model reflects a broader shift in the AI infrastructure race: specialist cloud operators are increasingly using customer contracts and chip assets to support borrowing, rather than relying only on venture equity. The approach can accelerate GPU deployment but depends on putting costly hardware to work quickly enough to service the debt.
Lambda raised about $1 billion of private, short-dated debt in a transaction arranged by JPMorgan Chase, according to an Aug. 28, 2026 report. The proceeds will finance Nvidia AI chips whose computing capacity will be leased to Microsoft. The company had already closed a $1 billion secured credit facility in May and this week announced a separate $926 million loan to acquire Nvidia GB300 GPUs for a deployment under contract with Nvidia.
