White House Reaches Deal With Anthropic to Bring Claude AI to U.S. Intelligence Agencies

Anthropic’s Claude AI is set to enter the U.S. government’s top-secret intelligence analysis system, serving the National Security Agency and other intelligence agencies. The move extends the use of generative AI beyond routine government administration and defense support into classified intelligence assessment and cybersecurity. It also underscores the White House’s push to build a sovereign, closed AI infrastructure for national security.

The White House has recently been finalizing an agreement with Anthropic, although available information does not disclose a formal signing date. The deployment will allow the NSA and other agencies to use Claude at the top-secret classification level. The White House has also approved the purchase of $9 billion worth of NVIDIA Blackwell chips to provide dedicated AI computing capacity for the intelligence community. The latest British media reports say Anthropic is helping the NSA deploy AI related to cyberattacks.
