Lyft Adds Fuel Cash Back for Drivers as Gas Prices Rise
Lyft drivers generally bear their own fuel costs, making gasoline prices a direct drag on earnings and a potential threat to driver supply. The relief package also broadens Lyft’s use of financial benefits and payment rewards to retain drivers. AAA said on March 19, 2026, that the U.S. national average gasoline price had climbed nearly $1 in a month, reaching $3.884 a gallon from $2.929.
Lyft said on March 25 that the 60-day program will run from March 27 through May 26, 2026. Elite drivers using the Lyft Direct business debit card at eligible U.S. gas stations will receive an additional 2% cash back, while Gold and Platinum drivers get 1% more. Upside will add 14 cents per gallon, and existing shop points can be redeemed for $5 off a fill-up. Lyft estimates combined savings of 23 to 47 cents per gallon for untiered drivers and 70 to 98 cents for Elite drivers.
