U.S.-Iran Ceasefire Sends Asian Stocks Soaring; TSMC Hits NT$1,940
The military conflict between the United States and Iran had raised concerns about disruptions to crude oil supplies, weighing on global equities and technology stock valuations. After the two sides reached a temporary two-week ceasefire, international oil prices fell sharply and capital flowed back into risk assets, making Asian semiconductor and major electronics stocks the main beneficiaries.
As of July 19, U.S. President Donald Trump had spoken with Iranian officials and announced a two-week suspension of attacks, sending Asian markets broadly higher. South Korean stocks surged nearly 7%, triggering a circuit breaker, while Samsung Electronics and SK hynix also rallied. TSMC shares initially rose to NT$1,940 before climbing further to NT$2,040, while Taiwan’s benchmark stock index broke above 36,000 points, with both setting record highs.
