Alibaba Consolidates AI Units into ATH to Target Agent Economy
Alibaba has built its AI strategy around Tongyi Lab and the Qwen large language model, while offering model services to businesses through its MaaS platform. As generative AI evolves from chat tools into AI agents capable of independently breaking down and executing tasks, model tokens are also becoming the foundation for computing and billing. Combining research, product and commercialization teams will affect Alibaba’s ability to establish a gateway and gain scale in the Agent Economy.
Alibaba recently reorganized its large-model operations and established the Alibaba Token Hub (ATH), led by group CEO Eddie Wu. Some reports also refer to the new unit as Token Foundry, which brings together Tongyi Lab, Qwen, MaaS and the Future Life Lab. The company has also launched the Wukong AI tool for enterprise users, but available information does not disclose the unit’s establishment date, investment amount or revenue target.
