Signal Co-Founder Partners With Meta to Bring End-to-End Encryption to AI Chats

Signal co-founder Moxie Marlinspike, a longtime advocate of end-to-end encryption, recently established the privacy platform Confer, which aims to prevent even AI providers from reading users' conversations. The technology addresses concerns that chat content could be retained, reviewed or used for model training. Its integration into Meta AI would mark an important step toward bringing private AI inference to large-scale services.

Meta has unveiled Meta AI's new "Incognito Chat" feature, integrating Confer's end-to-end encryption technology. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said even Meta itself cannot view the conversations. Existing reports have not disclosed an exact launch date, the value of the partnership or the regions supported. The feature separates regular AI chats from private sessions, reducing the risk that sensitive data could be exposed or used for training.
