Verizon Secures $1 Billion Google AI Fiber Deal
AI model training and inference are fueling demand for high-capacity links between data centers, making fiber networks a critical constraint alongside chips and electricity. Dark fiber — unused strands that customers equip and operate themselves — gives hyperscale operators dedicated capacity and greater control over traffic. The agreement positions Verizon to benefit as Google and other technology companies accelerate construction of AI infrastructure across the United States.
Verizon said on July 24, 2026, that it had signed an agreement worth more than $1 billion to provide dark-fiber connectivity for Google data centers. Chief Executive Officer Dan Schulman said on the company’s post-earnings call that Verizon expects to announce additional agreements by year-end. Taken together, those contracts are projected to generate several billion dollars of revenue over the next few years. Verizon shares rose about 3% following the announcement and an increase in its annual forecasts.
