AMD Unveils EPYC Venice to Challenge NVIDIA Vera

The rise of agentic AI is increasing demand for server CPUs that can keep accelerators supplied with data while running large numbers of concurrent agents within tight power limits. AMD is positioning its sixth-generation EPYC 9006 “Venice” processors against NVIDIA’s Vera CPU, seeking to strengthen its role in AI infrastructure and help data-center operators consolidate more workloads onto fewer servers.

AMD unveiled Venice at Advancing AI 2026 in San Francisco on July 22. Built on the Zen 6 family of architectures and TSMC’s 2-nanometer process, the lineup scales to 256 cores and 512 threads and is the first EPYC generation to support PCIe Gen 6. AMD said Venice delivers 20% higher per-core performance than NVIDIA Vera and 2.2 times its overall throughput, based on the company’s benchmark comparisons.
