Tau Robotics Offers $30-an-Hour Robot Housekeepers in San Francisco

Humanoid robots are beginning to move beyond factories, but high hardware costs and the complexity of household tasks remain barriers to mass adoption. San Francisco startup Tau Robotics is testing a service model instead, offering robotic home cleaning by the hour. The approach lets customers try the technology without buying a machine and gives the company exposure to the unpredictable layouts and objects found in real homes.

As of Aug. 5, 2026, Tau Robotics is offering the San Francisco service on an invitation-only basis at $30 an hour. The humanoid cleaners are operated in real time by remote online workers, while AI assists with balance and motion control. The setup allows the robots to perform useful household work before they are capable of full autonomy, making human teleoperation a central part of the company’s current service.
