AI-Related Trade Hits Record $3.8 Trillion as Semiconductor Supply-Chain Concentration Risks Rise

1 reports · First detected 2026-05-28 · Last active 2026-05-28

Rapid growth in demand for generative AI, data centers and high-performance computing has made chips, servers and related components a new pillar of global trade. Allianz Trade said Asia dominates advanced semiconductor manufacturing, but capacity is heavily concentrated in Taiwan and South Korea, leaving global supplies and prices more vulnerable to energy shortages, natural disasters and geopolitical shifts.

Allianz Trade estimated that global trade in AI-related goods reached a record $3.8 trillion in 2025, with exports accounting for about 15% of global trade and Asia contributing 65% of the total. The report warned that electricity shortages or political risks affecting key suppliers such as Taiwan and South Korea could lengthen chip delivery times and drive semiconductor prices higher.
