Telegram to Roll Out Gram Wallet to Over 1 Billion Users

3 reports · First detected 2026-07-21 · Last active 2026-07-22

Telegram launched the TON blockchain project and its Gram token in 2018, seeking to connect its messaging platform with digital assets. The company abandoned the project after a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission case, agreeing in 2020 to return more than $1.2 billion to investors and pay an $18.5 million penalty. TON later continued independently as Telegram gradually restored crypto features. With more than 1 billion monthly active users, an app-wide self-custody wallet could extend crypto payments far beyond standalone wallet providers.

Founder Pavel Durov said on July 21, 2026, that Telegram will add a native, non-custodial Gram wallet to every version of its app this summer. He said it would enable instant, zero-fee crypto transactions for more than 1 billion users, calling it the largest rollout of its kind. Telegram has not disclosed a firm launch date or additional technical details. Wallet in Telegram, formerly TON Wallet, had already surpassed 150 million registered users earlier in 2026.
