AI Labs Target $6 Trillion Global Education Market

Education, a roughly $6 trillion global market, has become a strategic battleground for AI developers including Anthropic and OpenAI. The companies are pitching generative AI for lesson planning, personalised learning and administrative work, while using free access and student discounts to accelerate adoption. Schools, however, continue to weigh potential productivity gains against concerns over privacy, academic integrity and whether chatbots improve learning outcomes.

Anthropic launched Claude for Teachers on July 14, 2026, offering verified US K-12 educators a year of free access to premium features if they register by June 30, 2027. OpenAI is keeping ChatGPT for Teachers free through June 2027 and says the service is used across dozens of school districts representing more than 150,000 teachers and staff, underscoring the intensifying contest to establish AI platforms in classrooms.
