Brazil Sets October Licensing Deadline for $319 Billion Crypto Market

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-11 · Last active 2026-08-11

Brazil has emerged as the world’s fifth-largest cryptocurrency market, making its regulatory direction increasingly important for global digital-asset companies. Blockchain security firm CertiK said the country recorded $318.8 billion in on-chain transaction volume over the past year. The rapid expansion has intensified scrutiny of compliance, asset safeguards and transparency among virtual asset service providers operating in the market.

The Central Bank of Brazil has now established a firm authorization timetable for virtual asset service providers, or VASPs. Companies must submit an independent audit report and secure an operating license by Oct. 30, 2026. The deadline marks a major step toward formal oversight of a market approaching $319 billion in annual on-chain activity and raises the prospect of operating restrictions for providers that fail to comply on time.
