X Launches Hosted MCP, Giving AI Agents Setup-Free Access to Its Real-Time API
The Model Context Protocol, or MCP, was developed by Anthropic to give AI agents a standardized interface for accessing external data and tools, and has also been adopted by companies including OpenAI. X’s introduction of a hosted service signals that the data connectivity layer for AI agents is becoming standardized more rapidly, with real-time social media information emerging as a key use case.
As of July 20, 2026, X has launched a hosted version of MCP that allows AI agents and development tools such as Cursor to connect to the X API for real-time posts and platform information without running their own servers or completing complex setup. It can also be used directly with Grok. The launch did not include any investment amount or pricing plan.
