Zcash Launches Zakura Node With Visa-Scale Privacy Ambition
Zcash, a cryptocurrency network built around private transactions, relies on full-node software to validate transfers, maintain the ledger and enforce protocol rules. Zakura is a newly launched, independently maintained client designed to ease performance constraints as the network pursues broader payments use. Its long-term target is 50,000 private transactions per second, a throughput level framed as comparable with Visa-scale payment infrastructure.
Zakura is now available, with its developers reporting initial synchronization speeds about five times faster than existing alternatives. The 50,000-transactions-per-second figure remains a long-term objective rather than current production capacity. The client also supports the forthcoming Ironwood upgrade, which is set to introduce restricted withdrawals intended to limit the damage from any potential counterfeit coins being redeemed in concentrated amounts.

Zcash uses zero-knowledge proofs to shield transaction details, but generating those proofs on mobile devices has remained a key source of friction. The delay is especially noticeable when users send ZEC from a phone, limiting the practicality of private payments. Faster client-side proving could make shielded transactions feel closer to conventional digital payments and improve their usability in mobile wallets.
Zakura has introduced a new cryptographic architecture and the Zakura Common toolkit that increase mobile proof-generation speed by more than 14 times. The upgrade could reduce the wait for a Zcash private transaction from about three seconds to less than 200 milliseconds. It can be adopted without a Zcash network upgrade, allowing wallet developers to address one of the most visible delays facing users who send shielded ZEC.
