U.S. Energy Startup Aikido Proposes Integrating AI Data Centers Into Offshore Wind Platforms
U.S. energy startup Aikido Technologies has proposed integrating AI data centers into floating offshore wind platforms, using wind power directly and seawater for natural cooling. The concept aims to ease the power, cooling and land constraints facing onshore data centers as demand for AI computing grows rapidly.
Aikido Technologies plans to begin testing off the United Kingdom in the North Sea by the end of 2026 to assess the integration of offshore servers, wind power and cooling systems. If the tests succeed, it expects to deploy a commercial system by 2028. Reports have not disclosed the investment amount, installed capacity or computing capacity.
