Ghana Opens Crypto Regulatory Sandbox to 11 Firms Under New VASP Law
Ghana has moved in recent years to bring cryptocurrency activity under financial supervision, establishing a legal framework through the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act of 2025. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Ghana is using a regulatory sandbox to test companies’ trading, custody and digital-asset services. The results will shape formal licensing requirements and investor-protection rules.
Ghana’s SEC recently approved 11 companies for a 12-month regulatory sandbox, allowing them to test cryptocurrency and digital-asset services in a controlled environment. The regulator will use operational, risk and compliance data gathered during the pilot to establish final licensing rules under the 2025 VASP law. Reports have not disclosed the value of the tests or the exact launch date.
