Nvidia Pitches Vera CPU to Chinese Customers in Agentic AI Push

Nvidia has long dominated AI computing through its GPUs and CUDA ecosystem, but U.S. export controls restricting sales of advanced chips such as the H200 to China have put pressure on its market share there. Vera, the company’s first CPU designed for agentic AI, faces fewer regulatory hurdles than GPUs and has become an important part of Nvidia’s effort to retain Chinese customers and address new computing demand.

Recent market reports say Nvidia has opened Vera CPU orders to Chinese customers, with orders placed now eligible for delivery as early as August. One Chinese cloud service provider reportedly ordered 600 chips in a single purchase. Vera offers an alternative supply route while H200 shipments remain stalled, though adoption still faces challenges including software compatibility, system integration and relatively high costs.
