Tencent Cloud Raises Hunyuan Token Prices as AI Agent Boom Drives Computing Demand
Large-model services charge by token usage, and AI agents consume far more tokens than conventional chat applications because they repeatedly call tools and carry lengthy context. BOC International estimates that a single OpenClaw user can consume tens to more than 100 times as many tokens as a traditional user. Guosheng Securities said this could widen the computing-capacity shortfall and create inelastic demand for Chinese domestic computing solutions with cost and ecosystem advantages.
Tencent Cloud announced the price changes on March 11, with effect from March 13, 2026. For HY2.0 Instruct, the input price per 1,000 tokens rose to RMB 0.004505 from RMB 0.0008, while the output price increased to RMB 0.01113 from RMB 0.002. For Think, the input price climbed to RMB 0.0053 from RMB 0.001 and the output price to RMB 0.0212 from RMB 0.004, representing an increase of about fivefold. Over the same period, OpenClaw's monthly token consumption rose more than fourfold.
