Midjourney Acquires Astrology App Co-Star

Midjourney built its business around a subscription-based generative AI service for creating images and video clips. Co-Star, a freemium astrology app, combines birth charts, artificial intelligence and human-written material to deliver personalized advice and social compatibility readings. Buying a consumer app with an established audience marks a shift beyond Midjourney’s core creation tools and fits a broader diversification push spanning four software and four hardware initiatives.

Midjourney confirmed on July 24, 2026, that it had acquired Co-Star in a transaction completed in the spring; financial terms were not disclosed. Co-Star has about 4.3 million monthly active users, according to Sensor Tower. Its roughly two dozen employees have joined Midjourney, with founder and CEO Banu Guler becoming chief design officer while continuing to oversee Co-Star as a standalone product. Midjourney is also developing its first standalone image-generation app.
