Midjourney Acquires Astrology App Co-Star in First Deal
Midjourney, best known for generating images and video from text prompts through its website and Discord, is pushing beyond its core creative-AI business. Co-Star combines birth charts, AI and human-written material to deliver personalized advice and compatibility readings. Buying the consumer app gives Midjourney an established mobile product, a design team and access to a service with millions of regular users, supporting founder David Holz’s plan to turn the company into a broader research and product organization.
Midjourney announced the acquisition on July 23, 2026, saying the transaction, its first, had closed in the spring. Financial terms were not disclosed. Co-Star has about 4.3 million monthly active users, according to Sensor Tower. Founder Banu Guler will retain control of Co-Star while joining Midjourney as chief design officer, and the app’s roughly two dozen employees will move with her. The team will help build Midjourney’s first standalone image-generation app, though the company has not provided a launch date.
