Nium Buys Cypher to Accelerate Stablecoin Push

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-24 · Last active 2026-07-24

Nium, a cross-border payments infrastructure provider, is expanding beyond fiat rails as banks, fintechs and Web3 companies test stablecoins for funding, settlement and card spending. Its purchase of Cypher, a crypto-native non-custodial wallet and card-issuing company, adds digital-asset engineering and operating expertise. The deal matters because Nium is seeking to become a compliant bridge between conventional payment networks and on-chain finance.

Nium announced the acquisition on July 8, 2026, without disclosing financial terms. Cypher founder Kuberan Marimuthu and the company’s engineering team joined Nium, with Marimuthu appointed vice president of digital assets and reporting to Chief Executive Prajit Nanu. Nanu said the combination would accelerate product development and support sustained growth as Nium broadens stablecoin-backed issuing and cross-border funding and settlement services.
