Robinhood’s August Crypto Volume Jumps 61%
Robinhood has made cryptocurrency trading a key part of its push beyond traditional retail brokerage services. Its acquisition of Bitstamp expanded the company’s reach among international and institutional clients, making combined trading activity an important gauge of both crypto-market engagement and the early impact of the integration.
Robinhood reported $17.5 billion in cryptocurrency trading volume for August, up 61% from July but still 38% below the level recorded in August a year earlier. Bitstamp accounted for $10.1 billion, or nearly 58% of the monthly total, making the acquired crypto exchange the primary driver of the sequential increase.

The history behind this eventRobinhood Adds Bitstamp Crypto Trading to Main UK App
Robinhood opened its US stock-brokerage service to all UK customers in March 2024 and has since added a stocks and shares ISA, options and futures as it builds a broader retail-investing platform. Its crypto expansion rests on Bitstamp, the exchange it agreed to acquire for about $200 million in cash in June 2024 and bought on June 2, 2025. The deal supplied international trading infrastructure, liquidity and regulatory coverage, including an established UK operation.
Robinhood launched cryptocurrency trading in its main UK app on Aug. 10, 2026, allowing eligible customers to buy and sell more than 50 digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and XRP, through Bitstamp UK Ltd. The service is offered with zero trading commissions and sits alongside stocks, the ISA, options, futures and Cortex-powered market insights. The rollout turns Robinhood’s Bitstamp acquisition into a consumer-facing product and advances its push to offer UK investors multiple asset classes in one app.
