White House Crypto Adviser Witt Defers Military Training as CLARITY Nears Senate
Patrick Witt, executive director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, has served as the White House’s lead negotiator on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, or CLARITY Act. The bill would define when digital assets fall under the Securities and Exchange Commission or the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The House passed H.R. 3633 by 294-134 on July 17, 2025, making Witt’s role in securing Senate support especially important.
Reports on July 14 said Witt, 37, would finish his White House duties on July 24 and report on July 27 for several months of Judge Advocate General training with the Georgia Army National Guard, with deputy director Harry Jung expected to take over. The latest report says Witt has deferred the training and will remain at the White House as CLARITY moves toward the Senate floor. The Senate Banking Committee advanced the measure 15-9 on May 14, 2026.
