ByteDance Reportedly Plans to Deploy 36,000 NVIDIA B200 Chips in Malaysia

U.S. restrictions on exports of advanced AI chips to China have prompted Chinese technology companies to shift computing capacity to Southeast Asia. ByteDance is reportedly working with Aolani Cloud to build a computing center in Malaysia to support services including TikTok and the development of large models. How it obtains the latest chips also has implications for the effectiveness of U.S. export controls.

As of July 19, 2026, reports said the center would use NVIDIA Blackwell systems and deploy about 36,000 B200 chips, with estimated hardware costs exceeding $2.5 billion. The project is intended to expand ByteDance's AI research, development and service capabilities outside China, but neither party has announced a launch date.
