Gumi, SBI to Launch ¥3 Billion Crypto Fund

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-30 · Last active 2026-07-30

Japanese game developer gumi has expanded beyond entertainment into blockchain and crypto investing, using wholly owned unit gC Labs to build asset-management expertise. Its partnership with SBI Financial Services combines gumi’s digital-asset experience with SBI Group’s compliance and financial infrastructure. The fund is designed to channel Japanese corporate capital into listed cryptocurrencies while compiling performance and risk data that could support new products if Japan permits crypto exchange-traded funds.

gumi said on July 28, 2026, that SBI Crypto Fund I would begin operations on Aug. 1 with about 3 billion yen, structured as a private fund with a three-year term. SBI Financial Services owns 51% of the operating entity and gC Labs holds 49%, while investors include Daiwa Securities Group. The fund will focus on Bitcoin and major altcoins, combining staking, portfolio rebalancing and hedging strategies to pursue returns and manage volatility.
