Trend Micro Highlights Four Cybersecurity Risks and Attack Trends as AI Evolves

Generative AI is accelerating content creation and automation while lowering both the technical barriers and costs for cybercriminals. At CYBERSEC in Taiwan, Trend Micro said AI systems have become a new attack surface. In addition to blocking external intrusions, companies must manage internal risks stemming from models, data and employees’ use of AI.

Trend Micro said the number of AI-related vulnerabilities had increased tenfold over seven years. It identified four major internal and external threats, including the weaponization of content generation, deepfake identity fraud and malicious prompt attacks. Its research also predicts that 90% of information online could be written by AI by the end of 2026, requiring companies to contend with attacks that are more automated, cheaper and harder to distinguish from authentic activity.
