Goldman Sachs Defends Diversity Commitments Against Anti-DEI Claims
Goldman Sachs strengthened its diversity, equity and inclusion commitments after George Floyd was killed in 2020. Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January 2025 and executive orders attacking DEI prompted the industry to adjust its policies. Goldman’s One Million Black Women initiative, launched in 2021 with pledges to invest $10 billion and provide $100 million in philanthropic capital, has made the bank a prominent player in the debate.
A report on April 7, 2026, said Color of Change had accused Goldman Sachs of weakening its DEI commitments and alleged that Goldman Sachs Gives funded anti-civil-rights groups. Goldman denied the claims and said diversity remained important. Color of Change began running ads in Times Square on April 1 and plans to continue through the end of June, showing each 15-second spot at least six times an hour. The campaign has also expanded to Dallas and Salt Lake City.
